Help and support
View Scanner for iPhone and Android
Email support@viewscanner.app – we aim to reply within two working days. It helps to tell us your phone model and roughly where you took the photo.
Getting a good match
What makes a photo work well?
A view where you can see the line of the hills against the sky. Hold the phone level, include as much of the skyline as you can, and stand clear of trees, buildings and cars, which can upset the compass.
It says it isn't sure – what do I do?
Cloud, haze or trees can hide the hills. View Scanner then asks you to line the skyline up yourself: drag the line left or right until it sits on the hills, then press Done. Your phone's compass gives it a good starting point.
The names look wrong
Check the app has a good GPS position (it warns you if not), then try calibrating the compass by moving the phone in a figure of eight. Metal objects and car interiors can throw a compass off.
Can I use the zoom lens?
Yes. Choose the lens on the camera screen before you take the photo; View Scanner allows for each lens.
Areas, offline use and credits
Does it need a signal?
No. Download your areas before you go (menu → Areas), and everything works offline. You only need the internet to download or update areas.
Which areas are covered?
Hill country across Great Britain, in areas about 50 km (31 miles) across. Very flat country, where there are no hills to match, isn't covered.
How do credits work?
Every area works free during your trial. After that, one credit unlocks one area for good. You can remove an area to save space and download it again later without using another credit.
How do I move my areas to a new phone?
Sign in with the same Apple or Google account on the new phone and your areas are there to download again.
Settings
In the menu → Settings you can choose km or miles, metres or feet, the text size, a light or dark look, and which kinds of place are shown on your photos.
