Terms of use

Last updated 6 October 2026

These terms apply when you use the View Scanner app and this website, made by Huw Baynham. By using the app you agree to them.

A guide, not a navigation aid

View Scanner names what is probably in your view, from maps, height data and your phone's sensors. Names, heights and distances can be wrong – for example if your phone's position or compass is off, or the skyline is hidden by cloud. Do not rely on it to navigate or to make safety decisions in the hills. Always carry a map and compass and know how to use them.

Map data

Maps, names and heights come from Ordnance Survey open data (Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database right 2026, Open Government Licence). We improve the map data from time to time and the app offers updates when they're available.

Acceptable use

Please don't try to copy, resell or extract the map data packages from the app, or interfere with our download service.

Liability

We provide the app with reasonable care and skill, but we are not responsible for loss or harm arising from relying on its results beyond what the law requires. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. If you live elsewhere in the UK, or in the EU, you keep the protections of your local consumer law.
